Soon after the suicide by former soldier Subedar Ram Kishan Grewal, AAP supremo and Delhi Chief Minsiter Arvind Kejriwal announced on the spot Rs 1 crore exgrita grant to the family. This frenzied suicide politics hit the headlines, as Subedar Grewal had nothing to do with Delhi.
70-year old Subedar Grewal became a celebrity after his death. Throughout his life, he might not have any political affiliations, but at his funeral hordes of politicians from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to Congress were there to pay their last respect.
For Politicians ‘Any tragedy unexploited is an opportunity lost’. This was quite evident for the public spectacle that was created by Congress Vice President, Rahul Gandhi and AAP chief, Arvind Kejriwal.
It was more that clean that they didn’t want to lose out any opportunity to target Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and BJP. Rahul had lost the plot with his khoon ki dalali (broker of blood) remark against Modi about a month ago. On the other hand Kejriwal also invited public outrage for questioning Modi over surgical strikes against Pakistan. He even sought proof of the Army operation.
Committing suicide is a crime according to the Indian law. But Kejriwal’s Delhi in an apparent game of political upmanship, announced a hefty financial reward for committing suicide besides pronouncing him as martyr.
Though it is a shocking incident but what is more unfortunate is that politicians are eulogizing his death just because it suits their style of politics.
