A short film “Mama’s Boys” by Delhi Belly writer Akshat Verma’s modern version of Mahabharata is trending now for a good reason. The film is all about the complicated marital status of the Pandavas and Draupadi in the contemporary world.
The Short flim takes a very notorious modern spin on the characters- with Bhima and Hidimbiare both being gym buffs and enjoying protein shakes, Nakula and Sahadeva are being stereotypically gay fashion designers who want to keep their sexuality hidden from their mother who is keen to get them married off.
But the most significantly fascinating characters are Aditi Rao Hydari’s playing Draupadi and Neena Gupta as Kunti. In a displaced attempt at feminism, the director attempts to justify her being apportioned in fifths to each brother by trying to imply Draupadi manipulates situations to her advantage. And Neena Gupta aced at being the typically doting, stubborn Punjabi mother whose sons are very near and dear to her.
