AAP Leader Sanjay Singh suffered a major setback in a defamation case filed by Punjab Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia against him. Satinder Mann, a co-accused in a defamation case filed by Majithia, blamed AAP leader Sanjay Singh of pressuring him to publish a “false and defamatory” news item against the complainant (Majithia). On the hearing today before the court, he tendered an apology (unconditional), following which the case against him was withdrawn by Majithia’s lawyer.
However, the court of Judicial Magistrate Jagjit Singh recorded the statement of Akali legislator Manpreet Singh Ayali. For the purpose of cross-examination, the case was adjourned to October 24.
Satinder Maan further added that he was summoned to Chandigarh by Sanjay Singh to use him as a tool to delay the proceedings of the court. But he refused to file the quashing/ transfer petition in the Punjab & Haryana High Court.
It is pertinent to mention here that in a defamation case filed by Bikram Singh Majithia on Arvind Kejriwal and others, the next date of hearing in an Amritsar court is 15th Oct, 2016. Majithia wanted speedy trial in the said case so that the AAP leaders should be punished and they should go behind bars for defaming him. The allegations in the case pertain to incidents i.e. alleged derogatory remarks made by Kejriwal and Sanjay Singh at the Maghi Rally (Muktsar Sahib, Jan 14), allegations leveled against Majithia by Kejriwal during his visit to Amritsar (Feb 27) and defamatory statements of Sanjay Singh and Ashish Khetan (Chandigarh).
