The comic books culture in India has been around for a very long time. I still remember the days when my dad and I visited local book-stalls, picked up a couple of magazines that had some colorful pictures and various cartoon characters that filled my head with joy and laughter. A few of them were funny too and made me laugh until I got teary-eyed.
Comic books played a major role in every kid’s life. They are considered to be great teachers and entertainers to kids as well as adults now. Right from mythological stories to sci-fi and superhero adventures, there is no other gimmick as crazy and fancy as comics and graphic novels!
Those who have been brought up with Indian comics such as Amar Chitra Katha, Tinkle, Chandamama, would know the joy of reading comic strips based on characters like Suppandi and Shikari Shambu. Well, that did upgrade further and gave rise to an independent comic book culture, where artists published their works without depending on big publication houses.
