Will Kejriwal be the CM face of Party in Punjab?

The AAP party has decided to delegate the task of managing the activities of the different state units to the top leadership. The AAP supremo who is the Chief Minister of Delhi and the national convener of the party decided to hold the reins of AAP Punjab wing.  Goa is to be managed by Manish Sisodia, the Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, and
Health Minister Satyendra Jain. The journalist-turned-politician Ashutosh and Water Minister Kapil Mishra are in charge of Gujarat.

AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal would himself hold the chains of the AAP Punjab unit as he can’t afford to give the task to the other party leaders. It is pertinent to note that Kejriwal has decided to spend at least 15 days every month in state and the party is in look to for a suitable accommodation for him in the state.

The party had released the first list of 19 candidates for Punjab assembly polls and the consequences of the first release were not good. The state convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur got furious over the few names in the list. The former IFS officer and AAP leader Hardeep Singh Kingra left the party because of favouritism in the party. Now party has decided to show doors to Chhotepur also over the issue of accepting money.

Even the suspended parliamentarians of AAP raised questions at the party leadership for finalising the list of the novices and parachute candidates. The factionalism is visible in the AAP Punjab prior to the release of the list because of former cricketer turned politician Navjot Singh Sidhu. When Sidhu tendered his resignation from Rajya
Sabha seat then it was speculated that he would join AAP and most probably, he would be the CM face of the party.

Though AAP head Kejriwal welcomed his move of resigning from the party but on his candidature as CM in the assembly polls, he did not speak much. However, the news of Sidhu’s joining AAP boosted the morale of party cadre across the state. The senior leaders of AAP Punjab were happy with Sidhu’s move to join the party but there were not digesting the news of his CM candidature.

Eventually, the party has been diving in the factionalism in Punjab. The move of Kejriwal to hold the charge of Punjab depicted that the party is not united in Punjab and finally, the AAP supremo has been trying to cover up the mistakes of senior AAP leaders.

In fact, it is crystal clear that the AAP leaders in Punjab would lock horns over the issue of CM candidature and it would be difficult for the party to control the damage. Moreover, in Punjab, only a Jat Sikh candidate can be projected as CM candidate as all the CM’s of Punjab hailed from Jat Sikh families. The politics of Delhi is entirely different from Punjab. The religion factor would matter a lot in the assembly polls of Punjab.

The party had won the four Lok Sabha seats in Punjab in the general elections and lost the elections in rest of the country. Even Kejriwal had lost the general elections from Varanasi seat. Kejriwal is the Chief Minister of Delhi and he is expecting that under his leadership the party would show their magic in Punjab. The party has no single candidate that could be projected as CM face in the Punjab assembly polls.
